An All-Female Crew Takes on a World-Class Challenge
On November 29, 2025, The Famous Project CIC, an incredible all-women sailing team, embarked on a daring journey to break the Jules Verne Trophy record. This prestigious trophy is an epic round-the-world race that demands immense skill, teamwork, and perseverance. The crew, led by experienced skippers Alexia Barrier and Dee Caffari, aims not only to conquer the tough seas but also to make history as the first all-female team to complete this challenge.
Facing Challenging Conditions
The journey commenced under rough conditions, with the team facing 4-5 meter waves in the Bay of Biscay. "I feel very lucky and grateful for all the work that has been done over the last few months and years, all together," Barrier shared. The team’s training prepared them for these tough scenarios, with a focus on teamwork and resilience.
Smart Strategies for Success
As they departed from Brest, France, the crew had to contend with unpredictable weather systems. The support from their meteorologist, Christian Dumard, was crucial, as they aimed to navigate through changing conditions while maintaining their race speed. "There is no such thing as an ideal weather window," Barrier explained, emphasizing the importance of strategy in this race.
The Goal: An Epic Sailing Record
The current record of 40 days, 23 hours, and 30 minutes was set in 2017 by Idec Sport, and The Famous Project team hopes to beat that. With averages of over 22 knots, this challenge will test their skills as they sail around the world, passing iconic landmarks like Cape Horn. The success of their attempt will require technical precision, a deep understanding of their vessel, and an unwavering spirit.
Empowering Women in Sailing
The significance of this initiative extends beyond the competition. It represents a milestone for women in sports, highlighting the potential and strength of female sailors. The team’s presence in such a thrilling race inspires other women to pursue their passions in sailing and beyond, showing that skies (and seas) are not the limit. “It’s an important milestone, and I think it deserves a little celebration,” shared Caffari.
What Lies Ahead
As they set sail, the crew of The Famous Project CIC invites everyone to follow their journey through their official website and social media channels, where they'll share updates on their progress and experiences at sea. The world watches as they strive not only for a record but for the empowerment of women around the globe in pursuing their dreams.
