Celebrating Triumph in Water Sports: The Namur SUP Race 2025
This past weekend brought vibrant energy to Belgium as competitors gathered for the 15th edition of the Namur SUP Race, a key stop on the Euro Tour 2025. The sun shone brightly on these athletes, all eager to make their mark and relish in the camaraderie that the event fosters.
A Glorious First for Marin Hoeboer
Among the thrilling competitions, Marin Hoeboer emerged as the surprise winner in the women’s category. Her victory is a testament to perseverance and hard work; the freshly crowned Dutch champion paddled expertly to claim her first major win, and the race was anything but easy. Battling against the adept Lola Pelletier, Hoeboer faced a fierce challenge throughout the race, showcasing remarkable stamina and agility.
Emma Freja Pedersen also stood out with a strong performance, finishing third, while junior paddler Elin van der Sar secured a commendable fourth place, proving that young talents are increasingly making their names felt in the paddleboarding community. Completing the top five was Nathalie Van Olmen, showcasing consistency and experience, while Stinna Morell Lerche demonstrated determination, fighting through adversity—suffering cuts from a fishing line but still crossing the finish line strongly.
Donato Freens: A Testament to Resilience and Skill
The men's race saw the unstoppable Donato Freens, who scored his second consecutive win in the Euro Tour 2025. With a slight lead over Ethan Bry, Freens illustrated sheer force and skill, embodying the competitive spirit that drives these athletes. Joep Van Bakel and Ole Schwarz followed closely behind, while Kjell De Bruyn rounded out the strong top five.
This competition not only highlights individual excellence but also marks a significant shift in community engagement, as kids and juniors were a notable presence. An impressive feat was achieved by an 8-year-old who completed the Amateur race, setting new records and inspiring other young paddlers.
